Turn-Mill Tool Path Planning and Manufacturing Cost Analysis for Complex Parts Machining

چکیده
This paper presents the techniques of tool path planning and an activity-based manufacturing cost analysis for the simultaneous turn-mill machining. The new turn-mill machine tools allow the parallel processing of both multi-axis milling and turning operations simultaneously. Turn-mill machine tools have been identified to be able to significantly reduce the total setup time and manufacturing cost by milling and turning the complex parts with a single setup. In this paper, computational geometric analysis and an activity-based cost analysis technique have been presented for turn-mill machine tool operations. The presented techniques can be used in CAD/CAM systems for the automation of turn-mill machine tools and the reduction of manufacturing cost of complex parts. Computer implementation and illustrative examples are also presented in this paper.

Automated process planning method to machine A B-Spline free-form feature on a mill-turn center
In this paper, we present a methodology for automating the process planning and NC code generation for a widely encountered class of free-form features that can be machined on a 3-axis mill–turn center. The free-form feature family that is considered is that of extruded protrusions whose cross-section is a closed, periodic B-Spline curve. In this methodology, for machining a part with B-Spline ...

Multitasking is an important part of today’s manufacturing plants. Multitask machine tools are capable of processing multiple operations at the same time by applying a different set of part and tool holding devices. Mill-turns are multitask machines with the ability to perform a variety of operations with considerable accuracy and agility. One critical factor in simultaneous machining is to cre...
متن کاملIntelligent Knowledge Based System Approach for Optimization of Design and Manufacturing Process for Wire-Electrical Discharge Machining
Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) is a method to cut conductive materials with a thin electrode that follows a programmed path. The electrode is a thin wire. Typical diameters range from .004" - .012" (.10mm - .30mm) although smaller and larger diameters are available. WEDM is a thermal machining process capable of accurately machining parts with varying hardness or complex shapes. WED...
